First full day

Well, friends, 24+ hours of the slow carb diet are now in the books.

Yesterday (which was a Monday) was tough. It was a tough place to start. I knew I had an especially busy day at the office, so I packed two Slim Fast Advanced Formula shakes.

I have mixed reviews on Slim Fast. On one hand, I obviously believe they're far inferior to eating actual food but on the other hand, being able to throw them in my bag, take them to the office and refrigerate them there for my meals is easy on me and my wallet. I'm also not tempted to run down the street and get a burger for lunch.

I popped one of those shakes for lunch around noon, which was my first "food" of the day. I was starving by the time I downed it. I've never, ever been a breakfast guy. That will be one of the hardest things for me to adjust to.

Those shakes, by the way, contain about 180 calories, 20 grams of protein and 1 gram of sugar. This is true, at least, for the advanced formula shakes. I believe the traditional slim fast contains both more sugar and carbs. (Not totally positive on all those, do some research of your own if you're considering getting some for on the go eating)

For dinner, which was around 5:30 p.m., I had the other shake. By 7 p.m., I was ravenous but I held strong and didn't eat, I only drank my daily pre-sleep tea with no sweetener. I hit the store Monday night, too to pick up organic brown eggs, Frank's Red Hot sauce, broccoli and a small package of steak. My wife made me a giant pot of black beans while I was at work, and we packaged and refrigerated them in Gladware in portion sizes to use through the rest of the week.

Tuesday morning, I was off to a much better start. I hopped out of bed and went straight to the kitchen to try to get in my 30 grams of protein right away. I scrambled three organic brown eggs, applied Frank's liberally and ate one of the portioned-out packs of black beans, also with hot sauce. This all went along with a cup of my morning coffee (no sweeteners or dairy, I'm a black coffee guy).

For lunch around 12:30, I had another package of beans with hot sauce. It's about 3:15 and I'm getting  quite hungry again. I plan to resist the temptation and make it to dinner where I will grill up the steak on the stove top and steam some broccoli.

So far, so good. I obviously have observed no changes in my appearance but I perhaps feel a little better? Or that might just be me feeling optimistic about potentially dropping a little weight. Not sure. Not sure if I mentioned in my first post, but my goal remains to drop about 40 pounds, which will put me around 150.

I'll check back in later this week. Oh, and one day closer to cheat day.
